Our story

Fresh is the whole point

Emberway is a small-batch specialty coffee roaster shipping direct to your door. We source single-origin lots from farms we know by name, roast to order in Portland, Oregon, and ship within 24 hours of the roast date stamped on every bag. Whole bean or ground to your brewer, one-time or subscribe-and-save.

Inside the Emberway roasteryEst. 2017

From a Portland garage

Emberway started in 2017 on a one-kilo sample roaster in a Portland garage, chasing a single idea: coffee tastes best a few days off the roast, not a few months. We built a brand around the roast date — every bag is stamped, every order ships within a day of roasting, and nothing sits in a warehouse going stale. Today we roast in small batches five days a week and ship to all fifty states, but the conviction hasn’t changed: fresh is the whole point.

We are not the cheapest coffee you can buy, and we’re fine with that. We pay our farmers more, we roast in batches small enough to taste every one, and we refuse to ship anything that isn’t fresh. If a bag ever lets you down, our Fresh Promise makes it right.

How we got here

A short timeline

    A garage and a 1kg roaster

We started chasing one idea: coffee tastes best a few days off the roast, not a few months.

    The roast-date promise

Every bag started shipping within 24 hours of roasting, with the date stamped on the label.

  3. 2022

    Direct relationships

We began buying farm-gate lots from producers we know by name, paying above Fair Trade.

  4. 2026

    Fifty states, still small-batch

We roast five days a week and ship nationwide — but nothing sits in a warehouse going stale.
